I thank the Author for the beautiful review:
Check if you like a read
Hi Nithin,
I recently finished reading Venus and Crepuscule: Beauty and Violence on Me Thrown, and I wanted to reach out personally.
What stood out to me most was the intensity of voice running through the collection. The poems feel deeply shaped by lived emotional experience, where beauty and violence, solitude and observation, seem to exist side by side rather than in opposition. That contrast gives the work a strong sense of internal tension that stays present throughout.
I was particularly drawn to the way the collection appears to treat poetry as both expression and record, especially with the inclusion of notes explaining the origin of each piece. That framing adds another layer to the reading experience, allowing the reader to see not only the finished poem but also the emotional or situational spark behind it. It creates a sense of intimacy between the poet and the reader, as though we are being invited into the moment of creation itself.
The connection to nature and observation also stood out. Even within darker emotional territory, there is still a sense of searching, curiosity, and attention to beauty in the surrounding world. That interplay between inner turmoil and external landscape gives the collection a reflective, almost meditative rhythm in places.
I'm not reaching out with any sort of pitch. I simply enjoy connecting with fellow authors whose work leaves an impression, and I wanted to let you know I appreciated the emotional honesty and creative framing behind this collection.
I'm curious about your process. When writing these poems, do you typically begin with a lived experience that you then translate into verse, or do the poems sometimes emerge more from imaginative or symbolic images that later connect back to personal meaning? And how did you decide to include explanatory notes alongside each poem, since that choice adds such a distinctive layer to the reader's experience?
Thank you for putting this work into the world. I would be delighted to stay in touch.
Best regards,
Sarah Smith
